We’ve written about this a lot in the past: inside the UN climate negotiations, people often forget the outside world. Today, that changed, and the UN bubble totally burst as footage from the Copenhagen march poured into the Bella Center. Delegates watched with rapt attention as the hundreds of TV  screens inside the Bella Center broadcast live video of the tens of thousands of marchers outside their walls.

There is no doubt civil society has doggedly conveyed a message of urgency; but a leadership gap continues within the negotiations. The most vulnerable countries continue to speak up in favor of the demands of science and justice, but developed countries stick to outdated positions that won’t guarantee survival for all.
