Albuquerque 350: Kites for Climate Action Set for May 3rd
The Earth Web Committee of the First Unitarian Church in Albuquerque and the New Mexico Interfaith Power & Light are collaborating to sponsor a citywide event, Albuquerque 350: Kites for Climate Action, on Sunday, May 3, from 4 to 7 PM at Mariposa Basin Park, 6401 Taylor Ranch Rd. NW. Click for flyer (pdf).
The goal of this event is to raise community awareness of the need to address global climate change by reducing the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide to a safe upper limit of 350 parts per million (the current level is 387 ppm). We hope to launch 350 colorful kites in support of the worldwide 350 campaign that will culminate in an International Day of Climate Action on October 24, 2009.
Kites will fly from 5:00 to 5:30 PM and from 6:30 to 7:00 PM. Participants are encouraged to bring picnic fare, lawn chairs or blankets to sit on, and kites or kite-making materials. Prizes will be awarded, and the festivities will conclude with an Earth Vespers service at 7:00 PM. Further information is available from www.uuabq.org or www.nm-ipl.org.
