Who isn&#8217;t, if it is possible? A new article in September by a large number of polar climate scientists looks at five proposed geoengineering plans for the polar regions (which are warming far faster than the rest of the earth and where 4 major tipping points exist). They examine the feasibility of the science behind the plans, the costs, and the governance concerns. In the second part of the article they review critically the arguments in favor of geoengineering given the context of what they find in the arctic and antarctic regions. This is a deep dive but very understandable and with some good graphics. They do not find that any of the geoengineering proposals could be effective or feasible: all would raise issues of cost and governance, and most would have anticipatable major negative effects on the environment. For example, putting sulfur-based aerosols into the air is likely to increase warming of the oceans, an enormous problem of its own. The solar array will reduce the Riverside distribution center\u2019s emissions by 85%, according to the announcement. <\/p>\n<p>DARK AGE CLIMATE POLITICS<\/p>\n<p>Bill Gates released a snuggle-up-to-Trump message on global warming saying it is much less a threat than poverty and disease. Bill McKibben began his rebuttal with this: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Any conversation about Bill Gates and climate should begin by acknowledging that he\u2019s been wrong about it over and over again. He\u2019s explained that up until 2006\u2014i.e., 18 years after Jim Hansen\u2019s testimony before Congress laying out the science, and well past the point where George W. Bush had acknowledged its reality\u2014he like Trump thought the whole thing was a crock. \u201cI had assumed there were cyclical variations or other factors that would naturally prevent a true climate disaster,\u201d he explained\u2014at the time he was the richest man in the world, and yet his scientific advisors couldn\u2019t get across the simple facts to him.
