Hi. I’m a member of the 350 Humboldt steering committee with a special request.<\/p>\n
350 Humboldt is on the verge of being a highly effective climate action group. We have a legislative committee, an art committee, an offshore wind committee; we have a climate book club and a speakers series; and a group that meets to chat and write letters each week. We solicited and got pledges to work for the climate in concrete ways from local political candidates. But we need a few more people to work on each of these actions and some new ones coming up.<\/p>\n
The legislative committee, for example, has identified over 40 bills in this session that will make a positive difference in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. But we only have five committee members, so we are limited in what we can do to support these bills.<\/p>\n
Also the Humboldt Climate Action Plan, a plan by the County and all our cities to take actions on climate issues from bike lanes to land use is about to be released for public comment. We want to attend meetings in Humboldt cities and at the Board of Supervisors to support enacting these measures. There are also other local issues on the horizon, so we really need a “Local Issues Committee.”<\/p>\n
You are among the 88 persons who have been most active in the past few months in attending our events or signing petitions or sending letters (out of 608 on our mailing list). \u00a0We would love it if you could take one step up and join a committee or help with the speakers or any of the other actions we are working on. Or just become part of our new virtual Rapid Response team to help support legislation or other actions that need a quick turnaround.<\/p>\n
