After hours of deliberation (plus 25+ minutes of comments), the bill was passed out of committee 3-1!<\/p>\n<p>However, the fight isn&#8217;t over yet\u2014SB 1173 still has to get through the Senate Judiciary Committee <strong>this Tuesday, April 19th. <\/strong>We need lots of supporters to call in with super-quick statements like this one:<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>&#8220;My name is ___. That&#8217;s why we&#8217;re so excited that tomorrow (Wednesday, 4\/20), the Arcata City Council could adopt our region&#8217;s first official Complete Streets Policy!<\/p>\n<p><strong>This would mean that every time the city or a developer does a project affecting the street &#8211; including regular repaving and maintenance work &#8211; they would include bike, pedestrian, and transit improvements.<\/strong> To get an exception for a particular project, the city would have to demonstrate why the improvements aren&#8217;t feasible and provide an opportunity for public comment. You can read the full policy in the Council&#8217;s agenda packet <a href=\"https:\/\/transportationpriorities.us19.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=d28d81f32a8bfebff6375b050&amp;id=48c3d23712&amp;e=c76177c48f\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is a big deal, and the City Council needs to hear from people in support of the proposed policy. If you can, please attend tomorrow&#8217;s meeting at 6 pm either in person at City Hall <a href=\"https:\/\/transportationpriorities.us19.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=d28d81f32a8bfebff6375b050&amp;id=377843bdf6&amp;e=c76177c48f\">or by Zoom<\/a>. But the devil&#8217;s in the details, and we do have a few ideas to make it even stronger. So here are some ideas of what to say to the Council:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I support a strong Complete Streets Policy in Arcata. This is a big step toward making our streets safer and healthier and our city more sustainable.<\/li>\n<li>The policy should clearly state that the city will not just &#8220;strive to&#8221; build complete streets, but will actually do so unless a project is granted an exception.<\/li>\n<li>The city should prioritize improvements in disadvantaged communities like Valley West.<\/li>\n<li>Complete streets progress reports should be required more frequently than every 3 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thanks for taking action for a healthier, safer and more sustainable community!<\/p>\n<p>-Colin &amp; the CRTP Team<\/p>\n<div><em>Want to let other people know about this issue?
