350 Humboldt has a book club! We meet the last Monday of each month. Every few months we decide on the next set of books. We are meeting this Monday evening at 7pm to choose. This is<\/strong> a great time to join and get a book you want to read (or want others to read) into the list. Bring two book nominations. After you present them (using reviews or from having read them already), the group will choose one. So every member has one book they proposed that we read. Just google \u201cclimate and books\u201d and you\u2019ll get lots of options. \u00a0Books can be novels, or stories about climate scientists, or problems like sea level rise, really no limit except some relationship to climate change. PETITION TO EPA BY CLIMATE PROTECTION AND RESTORATION INITIATIVE<\/strong><\/p>\n

BREAKING NEWS: ACTIVATE AMERICA<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade. Right now, 22 states already have laws on their books to ban or restrict abortion <\/a>that will now go into effect, and four more appear poised to do so. It\u2019s only a matter of time before we see doctors imprisoned and patients dying cruel preventable deaths in pursuit of back alley abortions.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re expanding our Pro-Choice Postcarding program<\/a> TODAY and urge you to sign up and recruit everyone you know. We\u2019re reaching pro-choice voters who sometimes miss elections making sure they know what\u2019s at stake and imploring them to vote for pro-choice Democrats this November.<\/p>\n

Sierra Club<\/strong><\/p>\n

Diesel back-up generators are highly polluting and are linked to heart and lung disease. Methane gas powerplants are massive greenhouse gas emitters, release toxic air pollution, and rely on notoriously leaky and dangerous pipelines. Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant has huge potential to damage our environment and human health and is appropriately set to be retired in 2025.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, Governor Newsom is looking to fund all of these antiquated and harmful technologies in this year\u2019s budget. California should be looking towards a future that does not rely on polluting or harmful energy sources. Instead, the state should fund mass build outs of zero-emission energy resources, rooftop solar, battery storage and other, clean resiliency technologies.<\/p>\n

As we get closer to the worst of California\u2019s wildfire and drought season, the Legislature and Governor must stop kicking the can down the road. We need a multi-year plan that truly prioritizes climate justice investments in California\u2019s spending.<\/p>\n

In our line of work, it\u2019s important to be nimble and to seize opportunities when they\u2019re presented.<\/p>\n

In California\u2019s newly created 41st Congressional District, which includes the Deep Blue hotbed of Palm Springs, the two Democratic candidates for Congress secured an impressive 46% of the vote in the primary. That puts the top Democratic vote getter, Will Rollins, within striking distance of an upset come November, IF we put in the work. You can help by signing up to phone bank<\/a> or postcard<\/a> to introduce voters to Rollins.<\/p>\n

It won\u2019t be easy. Ken Calvert is an entrenched incumbent, MAGA before MAGA was ever coined. He\u2019s developed a long voting record of being hostile to immigrants and the LGBTQ+ community, and we\u2019re hopeful that doesn\u2019t fly in this district with huge Latino and LGBTQ+ populations.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re immediately launching a postcard campaign and a phone bank into the 41st District to help boost Rollins\u2019 name ID. It focuses on his storied professional career, including his cracking down on white collar criminals who tried to defraud vulnerable seniors.<\/p>\n

Our next post carding campaign will be to Colorado voters ahead of their June 28th<\/sup> state primary!<\/strong><\/p>\n

We\u2019ll be sending postcards to environmental voters who voted in the 2020 General Election, but are unlikely<\/em> to vote in midterm elections based on their previous voting history. We expect to begin mailing out packages of postcards to signed-up volunteers beginning in late March, and the required \u201cmail-to-voters\u201d date for this round of postcards is on Monday, June 6th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

If you have not already attended an EVP postcard training, please sign up for one of the 45 minute trainings below.<\/u><\/strong> We use very specific designs and messaging that are optimized to increase turnout, so we require all our postcarding volunteers to receive an EVP training before sending postcards.<\/p>\n

We mostly postcard for ROV (Reclaim Our Vote), which is non-partisan, but have also postcarded for Activate America (which used to be called Flip the West), which is partisan.<\/p>\n
