Write to President Biden<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Biden administration is set to make a crucial decision on ConocoPhillips<\/strong>\u2019s Willow project in Alaska\u2019s North Slope, which includes hundreds of miles of roads and pipelines in the middle of the nation\u2019s largest block of public land, as the federal government balances more drilling with environmental concerns amid an ongoing energy crisis, The Washington Post’s Joshua Partlow<\/strong> reports. <\/a><\/p>\n

Last year, a federal judge blocked construction permits for Willow that were approved during the Trump administration, ruling that the government failed to assess how burning the oil pulled from the ground would warm the planet. But now, the Interior Department<\/strong>‘s <\/strong>Bureau of Land Management<\/strong> will soon complete an environmental review of the project. The decision will come after a gas leak at another ConocoPhillips plant forced residents in a nearby village to evacuate their homes.<\/p>\n

Environmentalists warn that Willow’s climate impact could be catastrophic, as it could unlock 3 billion barrels of oil, potentially derailing President Biden<\/strong>\u2019<\/strong>s goal to cut the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions at least in half by 2030.<\/p>\n

Point to make: US is historically the biggest polluter and on per capita basis is still second in the world in greenhouse gas emissions. We have to contribute as much emissions reductions as we can. Ask Biden to stick to his campaign promises to end drilling on public lands.<\/em><\/p>\n

Activate America\u2019s new campaign in CA<\/strong><\/p>\n

In our line of work, it\u2019s important to be nimble and to seize opportunities when they\u2019re presented.<\/p>\n

In California\u2019s newly created 41st Congressional District, which includes the Deep Blue hotbed of Palm Springs, the two Democratic candidates for Congress secured an impressive 46% of the vote in the primary. That puts the top Democratic vote getter, Will Rollins, within striking distance of an upset come November, IF we put in the work. It won\u2019t be easy. Ken Calvert is an entrenched incumbent, MAGA before MAGA was ever coined. He\u2019s developed a long voting record of being hostile to immigrants and the LGBTQ+ community, and we\u2019re hopeful that doesn\u2019t fly in this district with huge Latino and LGBTQ+ populations.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re immediately launching a postcard campaign and a phone bank into the 41st District to help boost Rollins\u2019 name ID. It focuses on his storied professional career, including his cracking down on white collar criminals who tried to defraud vulnerable seniors.<\/p>\n
