News for the political party that doesn’t deny the climate crisis has been trending upward, especially for the Senate. But we have a lot of work to do in the House of Representatives. And there are important races in California for the Assembly. For too long the “moderate” democrats have been “oily” from fossil industry contributions. That’s why the Governor’s proposal to reduce emissions by 55% by 2030 instead of the current law requiring only 40% failed. So if you can help with tight California districts too it would be great.<\/p>\n

Just in case you haven’t been paying close attention here are a few events of the last week or so: Late in August monsoon floods, made much worse by climate warming, devastated Pakistan. A million homes were lost and 1,400 persons died. In the same week we learned that the sea level rise from the melting of the Greenland ice sheet will double past predictions, and can no longer be stopped even if all emissions ceased today. And an August 15 climate study \u201cpredicts a 125-degree \u2018extreme heat belt\u2019 will stretch across a quarter of the country by 2053.\u201d https:\/\/insideclimatenews.org\/news\/02092022\/study-finds-that-mississippi-river-basin-could-be-in-an-extreme-heat-belt-in-30-years\/<\/a><\/p>\n

On the local front, we are continuing we our appeal of the Nordic permit. We will be asking for people to comment at the Board hearing on September 28. In the meantime, it cost us $562 for our share of the appeal fee. If you can afford to contribute please send to:<\/p>\n

It\u2019s finally here! On July 27th, the Department of Water Resources (DWR) released its draft Environmental Impact Report<\/a> (EIR) for the costly and environmentally destructive Delta tunnel project. The draft EIR examines the environmental impacts associated with the construction and operation of the Delta tunnel. DWR will be accepting public comments on its draft EIR until October 27. <\/strong><\/p>\n
