Since most of our work is done in committees, it is a chance for people to see others in the group and for those who get our action alerts to come and meet active members in person \u2013 just check things out. This month we will focus on committee reports, as they have been put at the bottom of the agenda for several months so have been cut or skimped. We also usually do a quick action, like signing a petition. But on Thursday we will walk \u00a0through how to submit a letter to legislative committees supporting or opposing specific climate bills. It is not hard and it gives your voice a lot of impact, especially when you write about things you know a lot about or have personal experiences relevant to the bill. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>W<\/strong><strong>e hope to see you at 6pm this Thursday. Additionally, we recognize that the well-being of all people is bound up with that of indigenous peoples, and we must <em>all<\/em> take action on the climate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This month our commitment to the caretakers of the land requires that we contribute to the Karuk Tribe. In January President Biden signed into law an act to place into trust for the Tribe the 1,000 acres the Karuk call the Center of the World. Previously it was managed by the US Forest Service. We will support the Karuk Tribe in managing the land and hope that it is just a start toward regaining the one million acres in the Karuk ancestral territory that is now controlled by the Forest Service. We get to meet in-person (not on a screen), talk about climate work or just get to know each other and enjoy the day. We hope to lower barriers to bus riding by doing it together and sharing knowledge of how to do it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-We have done 2 adventures so far with about 6 people\/trip<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We rode the Arcata system and then went out to lunch<\/p>\n<p>We rode to Hikshari Trail, hiked and had a picnic<\/p>\n<p>Next trip is Thursday, March 2\u2013lunch in Old Town-JOIN US!!!<\/p>\n<p><strong>-My hope is to organize an adventure about once\/month.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>-I would like to combine the bus rides with lunches, hikes, bike rides, Arts Alive.<\/strong> Open to other ideas. HTA said we might be able to come to their yard and practice loading bikes if there is interest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It would be great to have a planning partner.<\/strong> Anyone interested? The time investment is minimal. The pay-off is incorporating fun into climate work. Our quick action tonight is for everyone to write a letter to the legislature about a bill of their choice. \u00a0Go here for a set of guidelines to follow.
