There are a number of important climate bills 350 Humboldt supports that made it past the Legislature. Unfortunately, many of them have strong special interest opponents. We need to let Governor Newsom know that we are watching and persuade him to follow the earth\u2019s better angels. He is required to sign or veto them by the end of September, so we have 13 days to influence him. AB 2847<\/a> (Addis) require IOUs to be more transparent about capital expenses.

SB<\/a>960<\/a> (Wiener) Transportation: planning: complete streets
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

AB 2875<\/a> (Laura Friedman) would establish a policy of \u201cno net loss\u201d of wetlands statewide.<\/strong><\/p>\n

SB 1299<\/a> (Cortese) would make it easier for farmworkers to make workers\u2019 compensation claims for heat illness.<\/strong><\/p>\n

SB 1053<\/a> ( Blakespear) would eliminate plastic bags at California grocery store checkout lanes. No more \u201cpaper or plastic\u201d \u2014 just paper<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

OPPOSE: \u00a0SB 1420<\/a> (Caballero): streamlines the CEQA for combustion-based \u201cgray\u201d hydrogen projects and the use of biomass fuel-derived feedstocks.<\/strong><\/p>\n

B. \u00a0 Here is a chance to participate in California’s Climate Assessment Report, North Coast Region (from Cal Poly Humboldt). There are a number of possible roles.<\/h3>\n

California\u2019s Fifth Climate Change Assessment\u2019s Regional Synthesis Report – North Coast Region<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

\n\n\n\n
We are seeking interested participants to be involved in <\/strong>California\u2019s Fifth Climate Change Assessment\u2019s Regional Synthesis Report in a variety of ways. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Please share widely!<\/strong><\/p>\n

We (Andrew Stubblefield and Rosemary Sherriff) are the Coordinating Leads on the California\u2019s Fifth Climate Change Assessment\u2019s Regional Synthesis Report, focusing on how climate change is impacting six counties in northwestern California. The assessment is supported through the Governor\u2019s Office of Planning and Research, and aims to inform on-the-ground implementation and decision-making at the local, regional, tribal and state levels, focusing on communities most vulnerable to climate change. Lead authors include Dr. Daniel Lipe, Dr. David Narum, and Dr. Keith Parker, and Jennifer Marlow.<\/p>\n

As we move forward with the report process this includes inviting input from others in a variety of ways:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. We have a list of interested and potential subject authors<\/strong> under review to participate in writing individual sections of the North Coast regional report. We will contacting potential subject authors soon for further discussions. If you wish to be considered, and have not already responded to the Governors call for authors please mention in the form below.<\/li>\n
  2. We are currently seeking individuals who are interested in participating as a Community Advisory Board (CAB) <\/strong>member;<\/li>\n
  3. We are currently seeking individuals who are interested in participating as a Technical Advisory Board (TAB)<\/strong> member;<\/li>\n
  4. Write us an email <\/strong>describing your sense of what is most important for us to consider in this report with respect to climate adaptation and resilience in our region.<\/li>\n
  5. Join a mailing list for events and updates<\/strong> related to California\u2019s 5th Climate Change Assessment Regional Synthesis report for the North Coast Region.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Please fill out this brief form<\/a> if you are interested in any of the above. A job description for the community advisory board is attached.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    We have scheduled an information and Q&A session on participating as a <\/strong>CAB<\/strong> member on October 1 at 6pm (virtual). <\/strong>We will email the zoom link for the meeting to people who have indicated interest on the intake form.<\/p>\n

    Stipends will be paid to Advisory Board Members and Authors.<\/p>\n

    CAB: <\/strong>A forum to engage input from community members who live and\/or work in the region who are either directly affected by climate change, or who are a member of an organization or Tribe working to support directly affected communities to adapt and build climate resilience.<\/p>\n

    TAB: <\/strong>A forum to engage subject matter experts to support report writing, content selection and prioritization, corroboration with best available science (including TEK), and report editing.<\/p>\n

    Note: If you previously filled out the interest form to be an author, CAB or TAB member, we have your name on our list to respond back to, but please feel free to fill out this form for the CAB meeting on October 1.<\/p>\n
