OFFSHORE <\/strong>WIND PROJECT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Many residents of the county are excited about the potential for offshore winds to supply the energy demands both locally and statewide. This fall, the Schatz Energy<\/span> Research team is hosting a series of five webinar workshops on the feasibility of offshore<\/span> wind energy<\/span> development on California\u2019s north coast.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

COUNTY CLIMATE ACTION PLAN<\/strong><\/p>\n

California requires local governments “to assess and mitigate the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with their major projects.” Humboldt County is hoping to join the 40% of other counties in the state that have already developed a Climate Action Plan (CAP) to meet that requirement. The county is working with other local agencies to develop a regional CAP. From the county’s website: “The plan will explore locally-oriented strategies to reduce emissions from vehicle travel, electricity consumption, natural gas use and other sources of GHGs.” Stay informed here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

LOCAL BIOMASS GENERATED ELECTRICITY<\/strong><\/p>\n

Read two perspectives on local biomass production issues. One, written by local volunteers Colin Fiske and Katy Gurin and adopted as 350 Humboldt’s formal position, focuses on climate change issues related to current Humboldt biomass production: 350 Humboldt Biomass Position Paper 2018<\/a><\/p>\n

The second is written by local volunteer Wendy Ring, a retired physician, and focuses on the significant public health impacts of local biomass production: Public Health Impacts of Local Biomass<\/a><\/p>\n
