Lots of petition action this week plus we have a chance to influence the Wisconsin Supreme Court to be more climate friendly.
Message from Greta Thunberg and friends
Enough is enough!
For decades, big oil and gas CEOs have misled the public about the deadly impact of burning fossil fuels that are cooking our planet. Now we’re seeing murderous floods, deadly droughts and rainforests on fire.
Next week, top CEOs are meeting at a key business summit in the Swiss mountains, pretending they care for the planet — while digging new oil and gas fields, and making billions in profit.
We will travel to Switzerland in the coming days, bringing a “cease and desist” letterto oil and gas CEOs, demanding they stop any new oil and gas projects. Join us — let’s have millions of us speaking up and showing them that we see through their lies. Add your name now!

Under a new rule proposed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), routine venting and flaring of methane would be heavily scrutinized — encouraging oil and gas producers to capture and sell methane gas in an effort to reduce waste.

Thanks to tireless organizing, the Fed has unveiled draft principles that would protect our economy from the climate crisis. But, these principles are just guidelines – we need the Fed to make them a requirement for banks and financial institutions to follow.

In the next few weeks, the Biden Administration will decide whether or not to move forward on the single biggest new oil project on public land in the United States.
If ConocoPhillips’ proposed Willow Project is allowed to proceed, it has the potential to entirely undo all the clean energy progress we’ve made, and prevent the Biden Administration from reaching its stated climate goals.
Send a message to Biden now and ensure this project is stopped!

Colorado’s high country is a land of awe-inspiring vistas, old-growth forests, vital wildlife habitat and crucial migration corridors. Bears, elk, mule deer — even Canada lynx, threatened with extinction — all call this place home. But without protections these spectacular public lands are vulnerable to destructive fracking and mining.
Fortunately the Biden administration has proposed a 20-year ban on fossil fuel fracking and hardrock mining on nearly a quarter-million acres in the Thompson Divide and around Mt. Emmons, aka Red Lady.
Comments from the public are being accepted on the proposed ban, called a “mineral withdrawal” — and that’s where you come in.

HOW YOU CAN HELP WITH BAY AREA AIR QUALITY MONITORING OF REFINERIES
Please contact BAAQMD Engineering Manager Jerry Bovee at[email protected]. Tell him you endorse the “Performance Criteria” recommended by staff, and that you also support the requests made by the Benicia Community Air Monitoring Program and supporters in their December 5, 2022 letter to BAAQMD:
· The performance standards for fenceline monitoring equipment should be applied to all technologies associated with Rule 12-15 across all facilities’ fenceline systems, and to all emissions, not just hydrogen sulfide.
· Additional criteria are needed to ensure transparency and reliable public access to raw data collected by fenceline systems.
· There must be independent validation of hardware and independent auditing to ensure public trust.
· No extensions of time should be granted to polluters in order to meet these standards.

GET OUT THE VOTE CAMPAIGN
In the swingiest of swing states, Wisconsin, an important upcoming election will determine the balance of power in the state’s divided 4-3 Supreme Court. Vital decisions on abortion rights, election rules, unions, and so much more are on the line. Activate America is excited to launch the first postcard campaign in the nation to turn out Democrats who will side with democracy and decency in this election.
This is a critical election. One of the worst Supreme Court justices in Wisconsin, someone who has repeatedly sided against ballot access, is retiring, and we have the chance to replace her with a justice who cares about free and fair elections.
Sign up today for a list of voters to write postcards to. The election is just around the corner, with a primary on February 21st and the general election on April 4th. Voting by mail makes a lot of sense in Wisconsin in February, and the state requires voters to sign up again each year to do so. There is only a short window for voters to request a ballot, so we want to get these reminders out to them as soon as possible. Postcards need to be in by January 26th.
