If you want to get a sense of just how real climate change impacts are in the Pacific Islands, then go no further than this video from President Christopher Loeak of the Marshall Islands. Over the last year he has hosted international climate meetings, got world leaders to sign on to the landmark Majuro Declaration for Climate Leadership, and he’s even built his own seawall to protect his family and nation from the rising oceans. Now he is urging leaders and citizens around the world to get to work at the UN emergency climate summit this weekend – because as he says, for the Pacific it is already a climate emergency.

In three weeks time, his daughter, Milañ Loeak will be travelling to Australia as one of the Pacific Climate Warriors, to tell the story of the emergency in the Marshall Islands. Stand with her – sign up to take solidarity action here.
