23 NY State Candidates Sign Onto Climate Leadership Pledge
New Pledge Outlines Commitment to Bold Action in Fight Against Climate Change

350Brooklyn is proud to announce that Cynthia Nixon, Zephyr Teachout and Leticia “Tish” James join more than 20 sitting legislators and candidates for office in signing on to a new pledge that commits New York State candidates and representatives to take specific, concrete actions to fight climate change in New York. The pledge, launched by 350Brooklyn, helps to clarify for voters which candidates are willing to commit to strong action on climate ahead of the September 13th primary and the general election in November.

  • Specifically, the pledge outlines several key actions that can, in a comprehensive approach, decisively cast New York
  • State as a leader on climate issues. These actions include:
  • Supporting a just and swift transition to 100% renewable energy
  • Making corporate polluters pay for the pollution that damages our health and destabilizes the climate and use the generated revenue to fund green energy projects.
  • Refusing campaign money from fossil fuel companies
  • Committing to state-wide zero waste initiatives

350 Brooklyn has reached out to over 60 state and local political or campaign offices to urge candidates and incumbents to sign the pledge, including those sitting or running for Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Comptroller, and State Legislators both in Brooklyn and in other hotly contested districts.

We applaud those who have taken a stand by signing the pledge and urges all other candidates and incumbents at the State and local levels to sign on and show their constituents they recognize the importance of taking swift and strategic action in the fight against climate change.

To date, 23 candidates and incumbents have demonstrated their commitment to serious action on climate by signing the pledge, including:
