So we started tracking how much money Angus Taylor and the Morrison Government were promising to polluting gas projects.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>What we found<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Between 2020 and 2022 the Morrison Government made 25 commitments subsidising the gas industry totalling over $2 billion dollars.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These projects were designed to open up massive new gas basins, fast-track destructive gas projects and fund unproven technology that the gas industry likes to use to clean up its image like unproven \u201ccarbon capture and storage\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Funding announcements included:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$300 million for Darwin LNG\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$263 million for carbon capture and storage projects\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$200 million for gas-fed petrochemical plans in Darwin Harbour\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$173 million for roads in the Northern Territory to provide access to the Beetaloo Basin<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$60 million for Cooper and Adavale Basins<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>TOTAL MORRISON GAS HANDOUTS: $2.5 billion.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This research was covered in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/australia-news\/2022\/aug\/03\/greens-in-powerful-position-on-climate-as-labor-faces-scrutiny-over-coalitions-gas-fired-recovery-projects\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guardian<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>What Labor can do:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s an opportunity in the upcoming budget for the Albanese Government to scrap the Morrison Government\u2019s legacy gas subsidies that haven\u2019t been spent yet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Learn how much money the Morrison Government promised to the gas industry. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1168,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[46,17],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-7257","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-investigations","category-publications"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.1 -
