Tar Sands Free Kingdom Walk – July 20th-21st
Have you heard the news? The big oil companies have a plan to move tar sands oil through our beautiful Northeast Kingdom via a pipeline built back in the 1950’s.
So, we’re going to walk the route of the pipeline, to raise awareness about the pipeline threat in the NEK. Our current plan is to start the walk from West Burke on Friday July 20th, camp along the way that night, and arrive at the Irasburg fair at the completion of the walk on Saturday the 21st.
From West Burke, we’ll walk along the pipeline route with residents from Jay, Troy, Newport, Irasburg, Barton, Sutton, Burke, Victory, Lunenburg and Guildhall – all towns that this pipeline crosses through. We’ll walk through the day on Friday, then start again Saturday morning and end in Irasburg at noon to join the Irasburg Town Fair to help build community awareness about this pipeline plan (where we will also have a booth & a welcoming committee!)
ALL are welcome to join the pipeline walk! Imagine the sight of a long line of Vermonters traveling through beautiful towns and magical backcountry, with a mission to rally our neighbors to defend our land.
