Getting There: Buses are now being organized to get protesters to the march. There is still limited seating available on a bus organized by the Ecology Center (you can sign up for a seat here). Other options around SE Michigan are listed on the Michigan Climate Action Network site. In addition, you can reserve a seat on a Rally Bus. In general, buses will leave Friday evening, April 28, arriving for the march in the morning of the 29th, then head back after the march ends, arriving in Michigan in the early morning of the 30th.

Art Build: On Sunday, April 9th from 10-3 local artist Leslie Sobel will be hosting a session at Grafaktri where people can create artwork for the march (posters, signs, banners, etc.) Come help out, whether you can make it to DC or not! Wear old clothes and bring any supplies you can. Grafaktri is at 1200 N. Main. Park on the lower lot – drive just past the building and turn right, going down the steep driveway.

Background: On Sept. 21, 2014 400,000 people marched through the streets of New York City demanding bold and urgent action of the global climate crisis. The second People’s Climate March will mark the 100th day of the Trump administration. These historic efforts have been organized by the Peoples Climate Movement, a project of over 50 organizations working together to solve the climate crisis and address the growing pollution of our air and water, while also assuring the creation of good jobs in our communities. The steering committe is composed of activist organizations such as 350.org and the Sierra Club, labor unions, the NAACP, the Union of Concerned Scientists, and many more.  Beyond the steering committee, the project is supported by over 500 other partner organizations.

  • Organizing to ensure that a climate change denier does not become president.
  • Lobbying to prevent Michigan’s lame duck legislature from eviscerating the state’s solar industry.
  • Coordinating participation in a 350-led march in Washington, DC during the first 100 days of the next administration.
  • Fighting for climate justice both in underserved communities and for displaced workers in the fossil fuel industry.
  • And much more!
