With the new administration,

350 Santa Barbara is relieved to know that these attempts to frack on federal lands has been paused. While we are working out next steps to make this a more permanent solution, we want to thank each of you for what you have done to support this effort.

Say No to New Fracking on Federal Lands

The Bureau of Land Managment (BLM) is planning to open up federal land for sales to oil and gas companies. You organized; you spoke up. And the BLM disregarded the thousands of public comments.

Our coalition partners are taking the fight to them. From legislation to a lawsuit, folks are using various tools to fight back. Keep an eye out for more ways to get involved.

Background:

In 2018, the Trump Administration reignited a proposal to allow drilling and fracking across 1.6 million acres of federal public land and mineral rights in Santa Barbara, Ventura, San Luis Obispo, Kern, and neighboring counties. This proposal would allow for oil and gas companies to submit proposals for new oil and gas extraction in places including Morro Rock in Morro Bay, right next to Los Osos Middle School, and in Carrizo Plain and Los Padres National Forest. You can learn more by clicking here to view the Center for Biological Diversity’s infosheet.  You can see which lands were proposed in this interactive map created by Los Padres Forest Watch:
