What could be better for raising awareness of climate justice than a reboot of the great Eugene parade tradition! 350 Eugene and its allies-Our Children’s Trust, the South Eugene Earth Guardians, the Raging Grannies, the Interfaith Earthkeepers, the NAACP, CALC and many others did just that on Sunday morning, July 30, as part of the EUG Parade, a festive, community-focused event added to the Sunday Streets program. 350 Eugene’s vibrant parade entry warned of the dangers of climate change while reminding us of the sheer beauty of our planet and what we aim to protect–from the brilliant, life-giving colors of the newly created salmon parachute to our beloved Sun Goddess bringing up the rear, gracing all that came before and after her. So impressive was the entry, we garnered the top prize–the esteemed Slug Award!!! As fun as it was to receive the award, better still the exposure to our movement. Hopefully, more people will start to think about and get involved with the climate justice movement because of this effort.
Kudos to the parade organizers, to all the other parade entrants, and to all of you who worked so, so hard to pull the 350 Eugene entry together. A very special thanks to 350 Eugene’s Art Director, Joanie Kleban, for guiding this amazing effort.
