Just before Earth Day, students at the National Taiwan University gathered together with Risk Society and Policy Research Center, student representative from National Tsing Hua University sustainability team, and 350 Taiwan to demand the school to consider using their college endowment to divest from fossil fuel industries.

The student government has identified that in 2018 the school invested 170 million NTD(5.7million USD) into fossil fuel industries along with other high emission sectors. The students disapproved this action of “sponsoring air pollution ” calling the school to set up responsible investment metrics.

This action is a response to Earth Day, however, its impact will continue as the university settle down with its new president. Regardless of the result, the students are keen to keep an eye on their endowment and how the campus decides to use it in the future.
