White House Work Party
White House Solar Delivery and Press Conference

“Panels on the White House will remind every visitor to Washington that every roof in America should have solar panels for electricity and hot water on them,” said Bill McKibben, 350.org founder. “The President’s panels will do as much good as the wonderful organic garden that the First lady planted on the South Lawn.”
On October 10 the DC 10/10 Coalition will visit the White House to see if the President is ready to get to work leading the nation and the world toward just climate solutions that get us back to 350 ppm in the atmosphere. We’ll even bring the solar panels to help him lead by example by greening up the White House!
But we need a compelling messengers to help us issue the challenge! Our star speaker line up includes climatologist Dr. James Hansen, Joe Romm, Lester Brown, DC Councilwoman Mary Cheh, Reverend Lennox Yearwood, Phaedra Ellis Lamkins of Green for All, and Bush Administration climate whistle blower Rick Piltz.
White House Work Party
Besides solar there’s plenty of other ways the president could Green up the white house to show his willingness to lead on climate and clean energy. Let’s give President Obama a hand in making the White House Green! That’s why as part of the 10/10 White House event, DC 10/10 Partner the Global Warming Education Network will spearhead the White House Work Party – a symbolic and non-violent effort to help President and Michelle Obama “green up” the White House. GWEN will bring insulation, CF and LED light bulbs, and a wind turbine. They’ll also be suggesting bike racks, more bike lanes, geothermal power and MORE to President and First Lady Obama. Suggestions are welcome.
Beyond getting the White House green, to serve as an example for other Americans, our key request of President Obama is to please be a strong, protective, proactive leader, informing misinformed citizens about the very real, serious and urgent need to deal with climate change. In a democracy, citizens must understand why we need to aggressively shift to non-fossil fuels now, in order to forestall very serious consequences for us all in the coming years.
