Last Thursday, Ireland’s lower house of Parliament passed The Fossil Fuel Divestment Bill, requiring the government to sell off its shares of more than $370 million in investments in coal, oil, gas, and peat. The bill is now headed to the country’s upper house, where it’s expected to pass quickly.

To celebrate the occasion, Chicago 350 team members decided to pay a surprise visit to Mayor Emanuel’s office. With gifts in hand (a case of Guinness beer and a Chicago 350 t-shirt) and some celebratory direct signage, the group traveled to the 5th floor of Chicago City Hall at 9AM this morning.

Unfortunately, the Mayor was not in, but the group left behind the signs, the t-shirt, and a couple of business cards. (Surprisingly, the Mayor’s staff wasn’t up for taking the beer! Something about rules regarding alcohol, we think. Or maybe they just don’t like Guinness!)

Mr. Mayor:  Ireland divests! (And NYC!…and others…)  When will Chicago?
